Technical Consultant/Software Specialist, Intellectual Property Service Provider

One of largest providers of management software and services to the IP industry is looking to further cement their leading reputation in the UK. The company is undergoing a period of accelerated growth with a client portfolio now spanning over 150 countries and offices established across the US, Europe and Asia. The company’s software packages help secure their clients’ intellectual property as competitive and commercial assets, and their fantastic level of service and industry knowledge is reflected in their impressive client base. The latest addition to the London office will work within the implementation team, advising clients on the intricacies of the software solution, ensuring that it is constructed to the unique needs and specification of the client, and translating the individual requirements into a working and effective solution.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working as a part of the implementation team on all technical aspects, including data migration, specification and development of system integrations, installation and configuration of the software, and SSO configuration
  • Meeting with the client to understand their IP data and how they use their existing IP system, regularly consulting with them on the proper field mappings and transforming rules to successfully migrate the data into the company database
  • Developing and executing SQL scripts to perform the ETL database functions, and reporting the results back to the client
  • Analysing the data in order to create mappings to be used in data conversion
  • Creating data maps, validating converted data and identifying and solving complex conversion issues
  • Developing interfaces between the company software platform and other providers
  • Providing on-site support to the client during the testing and go-live phases to ensure a successful deployment

This is an exciting opportunity to pair your complex technical skills with a client facing liaison role. Candidates are hoped to have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field, and around 5 years’ experience in a technical consulting/software implementation role. Strong proficiency in SQL scripting is needed and previous experience in Intellectual Property, ETL, C#, SSIS and SSRS will be of huge benefit. There will be some travel required (around 20%), as is the ability to speak French fluently - other languages, in particular German are also a bonus.

Qualified Trade Mark Attorney

Plenty of ideas for growing your client base but not given the support to do so? Williams Powell are looking for a motivated trade mark attorney with a strong billing record who wants fast-track promotion to head of department.

Williams Powell are recruiting a commercially-orientated trade mark attorney to help grow their Trade Mark Department.  There is a wide range of flexibility as to the candidate they might consider but all candidates will have the desire and initiative to develop the business.  This could take the form of travel to conferences such as the INTA Annual Meeting or more bespoke business development trips.  However, candidates do not necessarily need to have a great deal of previous experience in this area.  You might for example be an associate who feels you are not entrusted with enough responsibility by your firm and who feels that your creativity and ambition are not sufficiently rewarded.

Whilst the position is one in which the firm wants you to help grow the department, it doesn’t mean there is not existing work.  In fact, the firm already has a great deal of work (with particular strength in the technology, sport and construction sectors). You will be stepping into a large portfolio and have the support of a trainee trade mark attorney and a Partner who is a trade mark attorney qualified by examination.  You will therefore be highly competent in all aspects of running a trade mark portfolio (including contentious work), have a good reputation with your existing clients and a strong billing record. There is ample work for the role to be entirely self-sustaining but the firm really wants to grow which means that, if successful, you will be involved in building the team in years to come and will have the potential to progress over time.

Candidates should be either a UK trade mark attorney, a UK solicitor with a background in transactional trade mark work or a qualified trade mark attorney from a jurisdiction outside the UK but within the European Union.  Candidates will likely have at least one year’s post qualified experience but the firm is happy to consider attorneys all the way up to and including existing Partners of other firms.  This could be a role that grows and changes over time as your experience in it develops and/or be an opportunity where you realise any unfulfilled ambitions limited by the structure and culture of your current position.

Salary: Highly Competitive
Location: London

Trade Mark Attorney

Enjoy a role with incredible breadth and scope that would suit someone who would like to further develop their existing commercial skills.  You will love the social side of the job; meeting new and existing clients, fostering strong relationships and building a network of contacts across the globe.

The firm has a genuine diversity of clients from small start-up businesses to international corporations across a range of sectors including (but not limited to) pharmaceuticals, food & drink, and financial services.  The firm's attorneys regularly offer strategic IP advice instead of simply delivering transactional work. The trade mark team gives focused advice on the availability, protection, use, exploitation, enforcement and assignment of trade marks, as well as dealing with related copyright, common law, business name/domain name and design matters.

The firm fosters a great work/life balance with a 21st century attitude to flexible working.  The Partners also understand that to be a truly successful trade mark attorney this often means the job has to be international and they support this by ensuring that opportunities exist for overseas travel so you can meet clients and potential clients with an array of backgrounds.

There is considerable flexibility on the profile of applicants that will be considered for this role.  Whilst the role will ideally suit a qualified trade mark attorney the level of post qualified experience is less important, remuneration and responsibilities will simply be adjusted accordingly.

Nearly/Newly Qualified Patent Attorney, Software/Electronics/Telcos

An international firm known for their transactional IP and litigation work is growing their patent prosecution team in London. This is an exciting opportunity for an attorney looking to challenge their abilities in a supportive and collaborate environment whilst working within a smaller team, but with the resources and backing of a multi office leader in the IP profession.

The new team member will have access to a varied portfolio of clients, including software, medical devices, electronics and telecommunication, in particular 5G cellular communications. The majority of work is for direct clients in the UK, Europe, US and Asia, as well as having the opportunity to build on this base through internal and external referrals, business development initiatives and networking. The firm has access to a great deal of contentious work allowing you to work alongside the established team on a substantial number of oppositions, as well as gaining experience in areas not normally available at most patent firms.

Responsibilities will include significant drafting and prosecution (including a particular focus on standards-essential patents) in the UK, Europe and US, European litigation and opposition work, and strategic advisory and opinions. Secondments are offered to any of the firm’s international offices and although the position is ideally based in London, they will consider other locations in particular Paris and Munich.

Candidates are hoped to be nearing qualification and have a background in electronics, software, telecommunications or similar. You will need to be comfortable in a client facing and commercially focused role with ideally some experience in business development/marketing activities.
