Our client are seeking two paralegals to fit within their existing IP practice in Dubai. You will have an excellent understanding of trade mark formalities process and be adaptable to learn local and international IP law accordingly. Dubai offers a tax-free earning model and the firm will also provide visas and help source accomodation for you and your family if you are moving from outside of the UAE. Typical responsibilities will include:
Candidates will have previous experience working as an IP Paralegal ideally with a focus on trade mark prosecution. A knowledge of patent is also useful but not essential. Formal legal or paralegal qualification is desirable but not essential. You do not need to have previously worked in the Middle East, experience in any major IP jurisdiction will be considered. Not everyone is looking for a radical change when they move jobs. You might just fancy a change of scenery, a little more or a little less of a particular type of work, or maybe you’d like the opportunity to get involved in some business development or marketing for the firm. This particular opportunity is a safe bet for anyone looking to explore a move even if they’re broadly happy where they currently are – the Partners are open to an informal conversation and understand that it can just take a little tweak to really get your career back on track.
Plenty of ideas for growing your client base but not given the support to do so? Williams Powell are looking for a motivated trade mark attorney with a strong billing record who wants fast-track promotion to head of department.
Williams Powell are recruiting a commercially-orientated trade mark attorney to help grow their Trade Mark Department. There is a wide range of flexibility as to the candidate they might consider but all candidates will have the desire and initiative to develop the business. This could take the form of travel to conferences such as the INTA Annual Meeting or more bespoke business development trips. However, candidates do not necessarily need to have a great deal of previous experience in this area. You might for example be an associate who feels you are not entrusted with enough responsibility by your firm and who feels that your creativity and ambition are not sufficiently rewarded.
Whilst the position is one in which the firm wants you to help grow the department, it doesn’t mean there is not existing work. In fact, the firm already has a great deal of work (with particular strength in the technology, sport and construction sectors). You will be stepping into a large portfolio and have the support of a trainee trade mark attorney and a Partner who is a trade mark attorney qualified by examination. You will therefore be highly competent in all aspects of running a trade mark portfolio (including contentious work), have a good reputation with your existing clients and a strong billing record. There is ample work for the role to be entirely self-sustaining but the firm really wants to grow which means that, if successful, you will be involved in building the team in years to come and will have the potential to progress over time.
Candidates should be either a UK trade mark attorney, a UK solicitor with a background in transactional trade mark work or a qualified trade mark attorney from a jurisdiction outside the UK but within the European Union. Candidates will likely have at least one year’s post qualified experience but the firm is happy to consider attorneys all the way up to and including existing Partners of other firms. This could be a role that grows and changes over time as your experience in it develops and/or be an opportunity where you realise any unfulfilled ambitions limited by the structure and culture of your current position.
